Mr. Gordon Lyn-Cook
Biography
Gordon Lyn-Cook is originally from Kingston, Jamaica and brings to Killin Elementary School twenty years of teaching, coaching, and leadership. His teaching experience ranges from Kindergarten through graduate level courses. He began his teaching career instructing high school business classes and English as a Second Language classes in Northern Virginia.
Mr. Lyn-Cook began his career with the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) in August 2002, with a teaching position as an English as a Second Language teacher at The Sullivans Elementary School in Yokosuka, Japan. He accepted the position English as a Second Language Instructional Support Specialist in 2011 and served as an instructional leader for forty-nine DoDEA schools in the Pacific. In 2013, he accepted an administration position at Bechtel Elementary School in Okinawa. As the assistant principal, he worked to improve the emotional, social well-being, and academic curriculum of the school.
Mr. Lyn-Cook has always been a lifelong learner. He received two Associate’s degrees in Hotel and Restaurant management while working full time. In 1995, he received his Bachelors of Arts degree in Business Management from Averette College. Mr. Lyn-Cook decided to pursue a career in education and received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Secondary Education from University of Phoenix in 2000. He was able to jointly pursue and completed his Masters of Science degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) also in 2000. In 2011, Mr. Lyn-Cook completed his second Masters of Arts degree in Educational Leadership from Framingham University.
Mr. Lyn-Cook is committed to continually improving Killin Elementary School. He is excited to build a school community where all students can find success and are prepared for the college or career path.
